4 Top Ways to Improve Your Outdoor Space

4 Top Ways to Improve Your Outdoor Space

by Chris Gill, November 8, 2016

With the winter drawing to a close and the summer days getting closer, it’s around about now that many homeowners start thinking about getting outside more in order to enjoy the nicer weather. Whether you use your outdoor space for entertaining guests or have it as a private play area for your little ones, spring is the best time of the year to invest some time in improving your garden or backyard. Here are a few things to take into consideration before you begin.

Building a Deck

Building a deck in your backyard is a very popular way to create a nice outdoor room that you can use during the warmer months for dining, socialising, or just relaxing. When building a deck in your outdoor space, it’s important to consider your options when it comes to decking materials – when it comes to timber, there are different types, some of which are more popular than others, such as merbau, which is sometimes unethically sourced. But, hardwood isn’t your only option – natural stone tile flooring can also be a durable and easy to maintain choice of decking material.

Outdoor Play House

If you have children, adding an outdoor play or cubby house for them to your garden can be a great way to breathe some life into your backyard. Building a cubby house can be a fun activity for all of the family to get involved in, and having one there outside can be a great way to encourage your little ones to get outside and play more in the fresh air. But, be careful that the cubby house follows regulations in your area.

Fire Pit

A fire pit is one of the most popular additions to gardens and backyards in Australia. A fire pit can make a great addition to an outdoor dining area or living space, as they not only give off warmth on chilly spring and summer nights, but they can create stunning natural lighting and ambience, too. Always ensure to keep health and safety in mind when deciding where to place your fire pit.

Outdoor Kitchen

Last but not least, adding an outdoor kitchen to your backyard can be one of the best things to do just in time for barbecue season. Outdoor kitchens are becoming more and more of an essential home feature across Australia, and it’s easy to see why – why cook indoors if you can cook outside in the sun? Remember to place your barbecue in a well-ventilated area to ensure that outdoor cooking remains enjoyable.

During the summer months, you’ll want to spend as much time outside in your garden as possible. This is why now is the perfect time to make changes and improvements to your backyard.
