Integrated Outdoor Living at Ashgrove

by Chris Gill, February 21, 2017

This family-friendly backyard design was created to allow all members of the family access to the space they needed in the back yard. Designed with both present and future needs in mind, the client decided to consider their backyard a blank space, and we were able to design elements according to their needs and desires.

Project Brief:

  • The focus for the backyard was to create an area that is an extension of the home and its living areas, with a pool and backyard to be proud of. The design of the backyard was to enhance the clients lifestyle now and into the future.

What we achieved:

  • A beautiful and low-maintenance swimming pool design that is integrated into the overall scheme of extended living space.
  • An outdoor entertainment area that caters to large numbers of adults and children.
  • A back deck and outdoor kitchen area that flows seamlessly into the home.
  • Fixed overland flow and drainage issues that had previously made the backyard soggy after severe weather.
  • The integration of curves and fluid lines into the design to decrease the formality of the space and make it more welcoming.
  • Improved backyard privacy through smart planting and design considerations.
  • A tropical-style planting theme was implemented with a focus on low-maintenance and low leaf-drop plants.
  • An automated garden irrigation system was also included.
